Was haben die Feindseligkeit gegen Geflüchtete nach 2015 und die Proteste gegen Corona-Maßnahmen seit 2020 gemeinsam? In beiden Fällen erstarken laut dem am BIM angesiedelten Forschungsprojekt „Cultures of Rejection“ rechte Bewegungen – indem sie zusammenhängende Feindbilder mobilisieren.

„Das Projekt ‚Cultures of Rejection‘ oder ‚Kulturen der Ablehnung‘ hat 2019 angefangen und wurde im Nachgang von 2015 entwickelt“, erklärt Alexander Harder. „Weil es die Beobachtung gab, dass nach dem sogenannten Sommer der Migration zuerst von einer Willkommenskultur gesprochen wurde – und sich dann beobachten ließ, dass sie umgeschlagen ist in ein Erstarken von rechten Bewegungen, von Angriffen auf Geflüchtete; und eigentlich ein Klimawandel der politischen Stimmung stattgefunden hat.“

„The project 'Cultures of Rejection' started in 2019 and was developed in the aftermath of 2015“, explains Alexander Harder. „Because there was the observation that after the so-called summer of migration, there was first talk of a culture of welcome – and then it could be observed that it turned into a strengthening of right-wing movements, of attacks on refugees; and actually a climate change of the political mood took place.“
