Das Berliner Institut für empirische Integrations- und Migrationsforschung und die Junge Islam Konferenz freuen sich, Sie zu einer Podiumsdiskussion mit der Soziologin Jean Beaman von der University of California, Santa Barbara, einzuladen.
 
Die Podiumsdiskussion beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wie Weißsein in Frankreich und Deutschland konstruiert und wie Staatsbürgerschaft und Zugehörigkeit in beiden Gesellschaften von jungen Europäer*innen verhandelt wird.
 
Jean Beaman ist außerordentliche Professorin für Soziologie an der University of California, Santa Barbara. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind race/ethnicity, Rassismus, internationale Migration und staatliche Gewalt in Frankreich und den USA. Sie ist Autorin des Buches Citizen Outsider: Children of North African Immigrants in France (University of California Press, 2017) sowie zahlreicher Artikel und Buchkapitel. Ihr aktuelles Buchprojekt befasst sich mit verdächtiger Staatsbürgerschaft und Zugehörigkeit, antirassistischer Mobilisierung und Aktivismus gegen staatliche Gewalt in Frankreich.

The Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research and the Young Islam Conference (JIK) are honored to invite you to a panel with the Sociologist, Jean Beaman from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The panel discusses how whiteness is constructed in the context of France and Germany and how young Europeans in both societies negotiate citizenship and belonging.

Jean Beaman is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research focuses on race/ethnicity, racism, international migration, and state violence in both France and the United States. She is author of Citizen Outsider: Children of North African Immigrants in France (University of California Press, 2017), as well as numerous articles and book chapters. Her current book project is on suspect citizenship and belonging, anti-racist mobilization, and activism against state violence in France.
