Profile


 

Petra Stanat has been director of the Institute for Quality Development in Education (IQB) at Humboldt University in Berlin since 2010.

Among other things, she is a member of the DFG Review Board for Educational Science, a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Institute bifie (Educational Research, Innovation & Development of the Austrian School System), and co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Pädagogik (ZfPäd).

Petra Stanat's research focuses on the conditions and promotion of educational success of adolescents with an immigrant background.

One focus is on issues of second language development and support.

Petra Stanat is currently working on several research projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Academic career


 

She completed her psychology studies at the Free University of Berlin with a diploma in 1992. In 1998,
she completed her doctorate (PhD) in Social and Personality Psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Subsequently, Petra Stanat was a research associate at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, where she coordinated the international part of the first cycle of PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) for Germany. She habilitated in educational science at the Free University of Berlin in 2005.

Afterwards, Prof. Stanat took up her first professorship (W2) in Empirical Teaching Research at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where she was managing director of the Central Institute for Teaching-Learning Research (2005-2007). Subsequently, she was Professor (W3) of Empirical Educational Research at the Free University of Berlin (2007-2010).
