Rassismus im Spitzensport: Problemwahrnehmungen, Erfahrungen und Handlungsperspektiven für diskriminierungsfreie Strukturen im Sport
Duration: 08/2022-07/2024
Department: Integration, Sport and Soccer
Project description
The aim of the research project is to generate knowledge about whether and how racism in elite sport is perceived and experienced by BPoC athletes, what (problem) perceptions white elite athletes and sports association executives have with regard to racism, and what challenges and needs for action athletes and sports association executives see with regard to racism in sport.
A mixed-methods approach will be used to include the perspectives of BPoC athletes, white athletes, and officials. A participatory research approach will be pursued, which especially allows athletes to have their say and integrates them into the research process.
An intersectional approach will be used to identify those intersections where disadvantages can be multiplied. The project is intended to provide basic orientation knowledge for top-level sport and a basis for the future, systematic derivation of action strategies.
The project is carried out in cooperation with the German Sport University Cologne (Prof.in Dr. Ilse Hartmann-Tews). Cooperation partners from the field are Athletes Germany, the German Table Tennis Federation and the German Basketball Federation.
